A Mikva Memory
The photo above is of Mir Lake, Poland (that part today is Belarus), taken by Yaakov Greenwald. It was probably one of the lakes in which the women of Mir toiveled before the community could get permits and could afford to build mikvaot.
No Jews live in Mir today. Some of those who escaped, who survived the Shoah, reestablished the great yeshivot in Israel and New York. We remember them, and salute courageous women everywhere who continued to perform this mitzva in difficult conditions.
